RACE.1. COMMENTS.
PLINIAN (6) has produced two good runs to date. He showed good pace over this distance on the polytrack last start but lacked extra late. His debut here over this distance was eye-catching. He is a progressive type and with Lyle Hewitson in the saddle, he should be hard to beat.
SEATTLE RIPPER (2) finished not far behind the top selection in fourth place last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result.
ATTABOY (9) finished fifth in the same race on debut. He lost a length leaving the start that day, but the manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. He would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.
BENNI IN THE AREA (4) showed good speed over 1200m last time and was only run down late. He drops to the 1000m and the cheekpieces going on should keep his mind on the job. Include in all multiples.
RACE.2. COMMENTS.
MOUNTAINSOFTHEMOON (5) stayed on at the finish over 1200m last time but found one too good on the day. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. She will love the extra furlong on offer and she is one of the leading contenders.
MADAME POMPADOUR (8) has improved in her last two starts, the latest of which was over 1500m on this course. The form from her last run has since been franked. With luck in running, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
MYTHICAL TUNE (4) has decent consistent form lines to her credit and doesn’t have to improve by much to break through for a well-deserved win.
GRECIAN PALACE (12) finished middle of the pack at her debut on this track. She is her trainers only runner today and with the natural improvement that is expected she can find the frame this time
RACE.3. COMMENTS.
PRINCE OF TARANTO (1) has finished second in his last three starts. He was running on too late over 1600m last start. Two of his five career victories have come over this distance. He will be peaking third up and with Muzi Yeni back in the saddle, he should be rewarded for his consistency.
CELESTIAL CITY (2) is a winner of his last two starts over a mile. The drop to the 1400m is an obvious concern, but he has class about him and can notch up the hat-trick.
FORMAGEAR (6) won a game race in his last start over 1500m on this course. He faces stronger today but S’manga Khumalo sticks with him and so are we.
KITCHAKAL (4) was back in form when winning a good race here in his last start over the mile. He returns from a well-deserved spell and if he doesn’t need the run he should be fighting out the finish.
RACE.4. COMMENTS.
QUEST FOR THE BEST (4) showed good speed here over this distance last time and kept finding to hold all challengers at bay. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. Despite his big weight, he should be hard to peg back in the run down to the line.
QUESTION OF FAITH (1) won a good race at the second time of asking. He showed good speed and took them all the way. He is up in class, but he has plenty of scope and should be up to the task at hand.
THE GLIDING FISH (5) was not beaten far in a decent field over 1200 metres last time and the form from that race has since been franked. He has won once and finished second once from as many starts on this course. If jumping on terms, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.
INTREPID (9) ran a good race over 1400m on the polytrack last time. He has a good record at the trip and with the benefit of a four-kilo claim he should be thereabouts. Include.
RACE.5. COMMENTS.
TRIBUTE TO YOU (15) was an easy winner in a soft field last time. He showed a good turn of foot and drew clear of the opposition to win with a fair bit in hand. He gets on well for top hoop Keagan de Melo and he can follow up with another victory.
TWICE THE STORM (1) has shown some signs of needing his last two starts. He has won once, finished second twice, and third once from six starts over this distance. He will be cherry-ripe third up and with Lyle Hewitson in the saddle, he should be hard to beat.
MOYA WA LALIGA (3) won a good race here over this distance last start. He showed good speed and found another kick where it matters most. He is the stable elect with Athandiwe Mgudlwa retaining the ride and he can double up.
NOBLE SNIPER (8) raced wide around the turn last time and understandably did not go on with the effort. He is resuming from a spell that would have done him the world of good and he cannot be ruled out. Each-way value today.
RACE.6. COMMENTS.
ROYAL GUIDE (3) hails from the visiting Alec Laird stable with Gavin Lerena retaining the ride. He set the pace over 1700m at Vaal last start and kicked clear of the opposition, winning easily. He has class about him and he should be too good for this field.
NATIONAL STAR (1) raced from a handy position over 1400m at Turffontein last start and was only caught late. She has won once, finished second twice, and third twice from six starts over this distance. She is the main threat to the top selection.
CAPTAIN ROCKET (2) moved up like a winner last time but was caught in the shadow of the post. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He is in a good space and merits healthy respect.
DOWSER (7) finished not far behind the third selection in sixth place last time out. He is two and a half kilos better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line. Include in all combinations.
RACE.7. COMMENTS.
EMERALD PRINCESS (7) is better than her last start effort at Listed level suggests as the jockey reported something to be amiss. She returns from a spell that would have done her the world of good. She won her only attempt on this course. Lyle Hewitson rides on her return and she may be the one to side with.
QUEEN OF SHADOWS (4) ran on powerfully when winning her last start over 1400m at Turffontein. The daughter of Vercingetorix is in a good space and if all went well with her travels, she will be running on strongly and can make it two wins on the bounce.
SOUTHERN CAPE (5) won a good race in her last start over 1750m on this course. She rises in class and Keagan de Melo retains the ride. She is a handy mare on her day and may be hard to peg back again.
SISTER LIGHT (2) has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. Her best form has been under Kabelo Matsunyane and from her good draw of two, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest. Watch closely.
RACE.8. COMMENTS.
EL REY VIENE (4) ran a fair race in his last start over 1750m on this course. He raced from a handy position that day and fought on courageously at the finish. He will be at home over the 1950m and in this line-up, he is the one to beat.
NEWS STREAM (1) finished just under three lengths behind the top selection in his penultimate run and then fought on gamely for fifth last time out. He won his only attempt here over this distance and cannot be ignored.
WARRIOR BLING (2) was his own worst enemy over 2000 metres on the polytrack last time as he overraced in the early stages. He won a good race in his prior start over 1900m and a repeat of that effort has him back in the money today.
ICE KINGDOM (9) is better than his last start over 1400m. His effort prior when finishing runner-up over 1700 metres on the polytrack was encouraging. Muzi Yeni sticks with him and he is worth another chance.
